Ash Firewood: [Splitting, Seasoning Time, BTU]

The winter months are right around the corner. Before you know it, you’ll need to start cranking on the heater. Or, you can start a fire. With that being said, you’ll need to find yourself good firewood. There are plenty of options out there, but some people prefer ash firewood over oak. It is definitely a good choice and you’ll definitely want to consider using it for your fire.

First and foremost, you should determine whether or not ash firewood is going to be a good option. After all, there is some wood that isn’t going to make good firewood.

You might even be able to burn the wood before it has completely dried out. The drying time will vary based on the conditions in your area and the weather.

Burning Ash Borer Wood

You also need to know that ash wood can be impacted by borers. You have to be cautious because you might be dealing with the Emerald Ash Borer.

The invasive pest actually comes from Asia. It feeds on ash trees and will ultimately kill them. It generally takes three years for the pest to kill the tree. The unfortunate truth is that hauling the firewood is going to cause the pests to be spread from one area to another.

If you suspect that the firewood is contaminated, you shouldn’t move it. Leave it where it is. This is why you should follow the tradition of buying it where you’re going to be burning it.

This doesn’t mean that you cannot burn borer wood. The truth of the matter is that you can. You might not be able to transport the wood, but you can still burn it in your home or yard. You will definitely want to do just that.
